Treatment Review: Coffee Therapy at K-Spa
K-Spa at the K-West Hotel in Shepherd’s Bush, West London is very much an urban spa. Everything is geared towards busy city-dwellers who need to fit their relaxation into a small space of time – from the hair-straighteners in the changing rooms to the very welcome clock in the wet area. But this doesn’t remotely detract from the atmosphere of calm and relaxation – for me it simply showed attention to detail.
I went along to try out the new Coffee Therapy Wrap. K-Spa is the only place in London to use Germaine de Cappucicini products – and very luxurious they are too. The treatment started with a head massage followed by being lightly caressed all over with a large feather – unusual but very pleasant. Next I was scrubbed all over with crushed cocoa beans which both felt and smelt amazing before being smothered in what felt like melted chocolate but smelt like coffee. The therapist explained that the caffeine in the body masque helps both draw out toxins and firm up the skin.
Once I was fully smothered I was wrapped in light foil and covered with towels and a blanket. A firm and very relaxing head massage helped take my mind off the fact that I felt a little like a mocha-turkey.
Ten minutes later it was time to shower off the masque and my skin felt smooth and toned. I was then lead to the relaxation room to enjoy shaped beds with individual reading lights, a herbal tea and a selection of magazines. One of the other occupants of the room had obviously found it slightly too relaxing judging from the faint snoring emanating from behind a muslin curtain.
After a few minutes’ relaxation I headed for the spa’s surprisingly spacious wet area with its two steam rooms, sauna, jacuzzi and loungers. K-Spa is a real oasis of calm – and if you don’t feel quite ready to brave the hustle and bustle of Shepherd’s Bush after the spa, the hotel’s restaurant Kanteen upstairs is pretty good too.
