For those of us who like to “go organic”, we know that Aloe-Vera isn’t just for soothing sun-burn. It has amazing healing properties when used internally or externally and the natural antiseptic can kill a broad spectrum of micro-organisms that attack our teeth.

Ransom's AloeDent has four toothpastes (original, sensitive, whitening and strawberry-flavour for children), alcohol-free mouthwash, dental floss and breath-spray in its range. Free from fluoride and artificial sweeteners, the natural ingredients tea-tree and horse chestnut, along with Co-Q10, promote the health of gums and teeth. Being pregnant can bring the misery of inflamed and sore gums and I’m no exception. I was looking for something to use to ease the redness and heal the puffiness after weeks of swigging salt-water and expensive mouthwashes. Impressed with the fresh and minty green gel, I started to notice an improvement to the firmness of my gums after 48 hours.

To keep up the good work, I kept AloeDent Fresh Breath Therapy (£2.49) in my bag. The unique combination of soothing Aloe-Vera with anti-bacterial Tea Tree Oil, Manuka Honey and Grapefruit, help to protect against the build up of bacteria. The initial burst of strong menthol flavour means you don’t need more than about two squirts on the tongue. However, the after-taste is pleasant and it helps to know that it is actually doing some good too.

I also tried the children’s toothpaste on my (almost) four-year old son who has a nasty habit of swallowing the foam when he brushes his teeth. He thought the strawberry flavour was tasty and with the lack of fluoride, I was less inclined to shout when he didn’t spit into the basin!

Verdict: A healthy, organic range suitable for all the family.
