Benefit Automatic Eyeliner Duo Pencil
review by Lisa Norman
With quirky product names and good quality cosmetics, Benefit products are a must have for make-up junkies everywhere. I’m on the hunt for a new eyeliner to fill the void in my make-up bag, and boy, have I found it!
Eyeliners do not always come packaged with a great application experience. Usually you poke yourself in the eye or get scratched as you try to apply it. With no horrible pencil shavings to contend with, just an easy to use twist-up cap to keep moving the pencil out, there'll be no accidents here. Boxed in a contemporary black and white pack, it’s almost a pity to open the pristine pack. But I have a job to do and I rip open the contents and drop them on the bed.
Lacking the harshness of liquid liner, the Benefit Automatic Eyeliner Duo Pencils are available in three different colours – Wink O’Ink, Call Me Nutty and Downtown Brown. Matching their make up to the female namesake, Lana, Gabbi and Betty, each colour is designed to match the other products in the range. Wink O’ Ink is a dark grey shade (Betty), Call Me Nutty is a chocolate brown (Lana) and Downtown Brown is a dark brown. It weighs 0.35g which doesn’t sound much but surprisingly a little goes a long way.
The tip is hard enough to allow the line on the eye to be drawn straight, always a bonus when you have flickering eyes like me! The line can be as thick or thin as you want allowing you to layer it up to get a more intense burst of colour. On the first application it’s a little hard to apply but after warming it’s extremely soft, almost like a shadow. It claims to be waterproof as many products do so I decided to try it out in the shower. Et voila, it stayed put!
The other end of the pencil features a small sponge to allow blending of the line for a more smokey and smouldering look. This looks great when you combine the colours together, you can get a really funky look! It’s easy to smudge the line and you can clean the sponge without hassle in warm water after use.
Benefit products are usually always fun and this product is no exception. It’s an experimental product allowing you to develop many looks with the same product. It’s all about how brave you want to be. Cover a paler shadow for a different look or mix it up with a bit of glitter, the possibilities are endless!
Yes, it is a little pricey at £13 but this will last you months and the quality is undeniable. Storing the liner in a cool spot like the fridge will help keep it from getting too creamy. Day or night, make sure you feel the Benefit.
