MOLTON BROWN REAWAKENING MER-ROUGE HAIR HYDRAMASQUE
www.moltonbrown.co.uk
£22
Let’s start with the crowning glory. We all know chlorine, salt water and sun exposure can dry hair out, causing breakage and a dull, frizzed up mess.
This rich hair mask is crammed with repairing protein rich amino acids, sugar beet to strengthen and add moisture and mer-rouge seaweed full of vitamins and minerals to condition.
For best results apply to the entire length of the hair once a week (unless you suffer from super greasy locks, in which case just smooth on the end lengths) and leave for 5 to 20 minutes depending on how bad the damage is. If you want to accelerate the effects wrap your hair in clingfilm. You’ll look silly, but the heat generated means the ingredients in the mask work harder, resulting in glossier hair.
The scent is subtle and fresh and your hair feels softer. After a few applications your locks are definitely shinier with the damage from the chlorine in the hotel pool a distant memory.
CLINIQUE SUPERBALM LIP TREATMENT
www.clinique.co.uk
£10
Lips suffer in the sun. Unable to produce enough protective melanin they rapidly dry out and crack if the moisture level isn’t replenished (and that doesn’t mean licking them!) Couple this with aeroplane air-conditioning and they’re likely to need some TLC once the holiday is over.
This fragrance free balm is packed full of potent ingredients to condition and repair the sensitive skin on the lips. The vitamin A complex helps to firm, while vitamins C and E are antioxidants that repair and protect from free radical damage. Extracts of wheat germ and barley boost moisture levels so flakiness disappears and lips look smoother, while the aloe extract soothes and calms if cracks have already appeared.
This balm is rich so a little goes a long way and it can even be applied over lipstick. But if your lips are in need of a serious moisture boost, coat it on before bedtime and you’ll awaken with kissable lips.
DARPHIN NOURISHING SMOOTHING BODY SCRUB
www.darphin.co.uk
£35
Using body scrub after a holiday? “It will rub my tan off” I hear you cry. This is not the case at all. The body should be exfoliated on a regular basis before, during and after a holiday to ensure a deep and even tan, (sitting on the shoreline, rubbing wet sand onto the skin while on holiday works a treat), but understandably the weight restrictions on luggage means packing an extra pair of Dior sunglasses will always win over a tub of scrub.
Tanning damages the skin, which results in it trying to shed faster. Exfoliation speeds up the process resulting in brighter, healthier skin. Therefore scrubbing must take place post haste, post holiday.
This gentle body scrub is gel like but takes on a milky texture when mixed with water. Best applied to damp skin it contains cranberry extract, silicia powders and bamboo particles to polish the skin, essential oils of lemon to tone, eucalyptus to encourage cell renewal and lavender to soothe, and a wonderfully moisturising blend of macadamia seed, apricot and sandalwood oils, so that the skin is changed from crêpe-like and dull to glowing and soft. But most importantly your tan will look far healthier.
NATURA BISSE BODY RADIANCE SOOTHING BALM WITH ORGANIC ALOE
Available exclusively from Harrods
£42
After scrubbing, must come moisturising. The skin will be dry and thirsty from the effects of a holiday and perhaps a little sensitive from too much sunbathing or the chemicals in sun creams. However you don’t want to lather heavy oils onto the skin, which calls for a more intelligent body hydrator.
This multi-tasking balm is refreshing and cooling when applied and quickly absorbs into the skin, leaving it soft and silky rather than greasy. It contains organic aloe vera extract harvested from the Spanish Canary Islands, which deeply hydrates and calms sensitive skins, while bisabolol compound soothes irritated areas.
The vitamin E combats free radical damage and tyrosine amino acids cleverly help to stimulate the formation of a protective melanin in the skin.
It is best applied after a shower, but can be used anytime to soothe those post holiday sore bits.
ESTEE LAUDER HYDRA COMPLETE MULTI-LEVEL MOISTURE GEL MASK
www.esteelauder.co.uk
£26
There is no way to sugar coat it, tanning = ageing. Couple this with holiday partying and alcohol, and correcting damage to the face after a holiday is essential.
Exfoliating, moisturising and drinking litres of water all play a helpful part in getting a youthful glow back, but a face mask is vital in speeding things along. This mask is supremely hydrating. It’s oil-free formulation contains comic book sounding patented Super Plumping Sphere’s, which flood the skin to plump it up and smooth over any fine age lines or lines caused by dehydration. The light blue gel is cool to the touch, tingles upon application and smells slightly astringent.
It only needs to be left on for 10 minutes (it doesn’t dry out), but in that short space of time the skin becomes smoother and springier and the excesses of the holiday fade away. |
