Beauty Tried & Tested: A Regal Indulgence - Champneys Thai Royale

A Regal Indulgence - Champneys Thai Royale
review by Belinda Morris

Is it still too early to use the 'C' word? Perhaps it is, but if you're looking for some inspiration on what to buy mother, girl friend, sister... or, in fact, anyone who appreciates a bit of pampering (at a less than extravagant price) might I make a suggestion? Champney's (one of the original spas and now also the name behind an ever growing range of beauty products) has launched a new line of bath and body goodies. Called Thai Royale Spa Collection it's as gloriously exotic and indulgent as its name implies and the great thing is, you don't have to go any further than Sainsbury's to lay your hands on it.

The purple packaging with a gold trim, makes it pretty easy to spot on the shelf, as well as giving an indication of the richness of the contents. With ingredients like coconut oil, hibiscus flower milk, shea butter and rice milk, the Shower Cream (£8/250ml) feels extremely creamy and lathers beautifully — then leaves your skin feeling soft as well as slightly fragranced. Follow it up with the Body Cream (£7/150ml) and the moisture is sealed in as well as topped up with a nourishing blend of kukui nut oil, cocoa butter, lime seed oil and soothing lemongrass and sweet basil.

If you like your spa experience to be relaxing as well as indulgent, I can highly recommend the Bubble Float, (£12/400ml) which smells heavenly as you run the gloopy cream under the bath tap. Added to the coconut milk, frangipani flower extract and lemongrass is ginger and vetiver essential oils to encourage a feeling of wellbeing. It also bubbles magnificently!

As a fan of cosmetic oils, I was bound to love Thai Royale Beauty Oil (£7/50ml), not least because it's multi-tasking. You can use it as a bath oil, a massage oil, an intensive moisturiser and also as a hair treatment — great from dehydrated hair or dry scalps. And like the rest of the range, it smells beautiful, thanks to the 'Monoi de Tahiti oil, which is made by infusing coconut oil with gardenia flower extracts. And like a perfume, the scent lingers on the skin for hours.
