For most women, an all-over body moisturiser is a beauty box essential. I’ve always religiously applied moisturiser, and when it comes to fake tanning I can’t live without it.

Beauty Tried & Tested: OP Therapy Body Hydrator with Emu Oil

When I came across the OP Body Therapy moisturiser with Emu Oil, my first reaction was a frown. Emu oil?, I thought, and wondered what the rich brown packaging would house inside it. I opened the tub, and the first thing I noticed was the thick, luxurious texture of the cream. The smell was the second thing I noticed, its rich and sweet aroma hitting me like the aroma of a Michelin-starred Chef’s desert – sweet and thick.

I applied the cream after my evening bath, and it was easily absorbed. The cream was thick, but at the same time did not leave a greasy residue. Instead, my thirsty skin drank the moisturiser in an instant. After a few days of use, I decided to use the cream on my face. Okay, so the tub doesn’t technically say it can be used on the face, but I thought I’d give it a go. The face is a far more delicate area than legs, arms and the like, and I felt the cream was too oily for the face: I learnt my lesson.

A few days later, after using the cream daily, my skin definitely felt smoother. There was an immediate smoothing effect after application, which is to be expected, but it was reassuring to feel that the effect did not wear off the next day. My legs especially felt softer, and between tanning I used the cream to moisturise my dry skin.

So what is the attraction to emu oil? It comes from the emu fat, and the oil itself is said to have healing, moisturising and anti-inflammatory qualities. I definitely noticed the moisturising qualities, and was pleased with the cream. What’s more, the moisturiser has won Best Body Cream in the Natural Health Beauty Awards 2010, a rather impressive title.

I noticed that the cream is said to be absorbed into the skin within 5-10 minutes, but every time I applied it my skin drank it all in, instantly. I must have very dry skin, I thought.

I also had a sample of the lemon and lime Lip Restorer, a rich and creamy lip balm with a citrus scent. Lips always seem to be problem areas over the winter, so my lips were in need of some restoring after the cold season. Similar to the body cream, the lip balm was also absorbed easily, and without a greasy residue. I re-applied the cream a couple of times during the day, and by the evening my lips felt incredibly soft and moisturised. The lip salve also features the emu oil, and although rather hesitant at first (the thought of oil from bird fat next to my lips wasn’t overly appealing), I soon admired its moisturising and smoothing feeling.

OP Therapy Body Hydrator is a definite winner for dry, tired skin, and the perfect in-between tanning moisturiser.
