Beauty Tried & Tested: A Fresh New Brightening Star - Supernova Radiance by Fresh

A Fresh New Brightening Star - Supernova Radiance by Fresh
review by Belinda Morris

There are certain items in the arsenal of beauty aids that have now reached iconic, superstar status. One of these is Touche éclat by YSL. The undereye concealer pen in its glam gold case was the first of its kind and quickly became a must-have, make-up bag hero. But that doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily in a class of it’s own... not any more. Having started a trend for such slick, functional beauty tools, there are now a few similar products from other brands.

And now here’s another – but with a difference. Supernova Radiance (£18) by Fresh does the disguising of dark shadows – as you would wish – but as might be expected from this botanics-based line, the ingredients are largely natural. And with the combination of plant ingredients comes a few add-on benefits, beyond the purely cosmetic.

While the naturally occurring mineral mica gives a shimmer, and microspheres infused with light-reflective pigments brighten the skin and cover up dark circles, other elements add the feelgood factor. Meadowfoam seed oil is an emollient that nourishes the skin as it penetrates; camomile flower extract is a soothing anti-inflammatory; cucumber fruit extract hydrates, calms and tones the skin; mulberry root extract brightens and evens skin tone and lotus flower extract defends against signs of ageing.

All of which makes Supernova sound like a miracle worker. Hmm, some things take time and nature has a more gentle approach to miracles than science, but what I can tell you is that the pretty silvery click-pen does the jon by gliding on smoothly and coolly with an even flow of colour through the neat brush tip (three shades are available). It can be used on bare skin or over make-up and will cover up redness around the nose and on the chin (as well as around the eyes). And I like the fact that there are no harsh chemical involved. What’s more, it’s slightly less expensive than the exalted original!
