Nudity In A Bottle - Donna Karan's Cashmere Mist
Review by Belinda Morris
Before I say anything at all about Donna Karan's new, limited edition, fragrance, Cashmere Mist Liquid Nude, I have to hold up my hands and admit that this review is liable to be a bit, well, biased really. I am already a big fan of the original Cashmere Mist and have been since it launched over 15 years ago. The gently sweet fragrance (which was actually introduced – unusually – as a bath and body line first; the scent followed two years later) is warm and subtly powdery making it an any time of day scent.
The thinking behind Cashmere Mist was to suggest the sensation of wearing cashmere on bare skin (nothing like it – it's so hard to go back to wool once you've worn cashmere, as any die-hard pashmina-lover will tell you). Now, Donna Karan has upped things a little with the Liquid Nude version, which is inspired by the feeling of "a skin-on-skin caress... created to reflect the innate sensuality of your skin."
It always adds a little something to understand the inspiration behind a fragrance I think. And whether this scent makes me think of skin on skin, or not, there's no escaping the fact that it is warm, incredibly soft, smooth and creamy – all of things I would certainly like my skin to be. And if it manages to exude that illusion then great! Regardless of such potential powers – I love it. Almost as much as I love her headier, evening scent Black Cashmere.
Do you need to know the cocktail of ingredients that creates this sensual potion? OK: like the original there's a base of suede, but together with white amber and skin musk, but it opens with orange flowers, pink cyclamen and a hint of lily of the valley. At the heart is warm sandalwood, ylang heart and jasmine.
