Beauty Tried & Tested: Hi-Voltage Skin Care - RoC Sublime Energy - Night Concentrate E-Pulse™ Creme ActivaTrice

Hi-Voltage Skin Care
Review by Belinda Morris

If you're the kind of girl – sorry, I mean person, mustn't discriminate – who likes a bit of innovations with her skin care routine, then you might want to take note of RoC's new anti-ageing line. You might have even seen it advertised on the TV recently. Of course all good research and development departments are striving daily to find that certain something that's going to give us all eternal youth and that inevitably means a lot of science to get your head around. This one is no different.

Sublime Energy - Night Concentrate E-Pulse™ Creme ActivaTrice (£39.99 - 2x30ml) not only has a very long name but has been eight years in the making. It harnesses the power of electricity to stimulate skin cells to achieve their usual level of rejuvenation. The natural process of electrical currents between skin cells diminishes as we get older, which means that the production of essential proteins like collagen and elastin fall off... which in turn leas to wrinkles, sagginess, uneven skin tone and the rest.

So, how does bioelectricity (for that is what Sublime Energy is described as) translate into skin care products – without the aid of a plug and socket? The answer is a two-step process: the first cream contains energised particles of zinc and copper, which act as tiny batteries to help jump-start the skin cells into action. The moisturiser which goes over the top works as an 'activator'.

RoC has provided data – in vitro as well as on human testers (aged 35-60) – to show that the eye product produces visible results after just three hours. Since I am trying the night cream I can't tell you how my skin looked at two in the morning, but after one week the two furrows above my eyes seem very slightly soffter.

It's a pleasant product to use. Ok, so the step-one cream is a rather alarming sludgy green, like a mud face pack, but it's very light, absorbs quickly and leaves my skin feeling immediately silky smooth – and there's no green tinge left behind. The scented moisturiser, looks and feels like any other moisturiser. The two step element is not the faff that you might think it would be, especially if, like  me, you normally use a serum under your night cream. It will certainly be interesting to see any future data from RoC on the Sublime energy Day and Night products.

Exclusively from Boots this October.
