  Super Scrubs
Review by Sarah Nash

The sun has put its hat on so peeling off the concealing winter layers of cashmere and wool to expose the skin is imminent. Unless you’ve been disciplined during the winter months with regular exfoliating and moisturising your skin will need some attention before its unveiling. What better way encourage smooth glowing skin than with the best body buffers on the market.

Beauty Tried & Tested: Super Scrubs

Rituals Sakura Scrub
www.uk.ritualsstore.com £12.90
Sakura is Japanese for cherry blossom and this is the scrub’s pleasantly sweet aroma that envelops the skin. The buffing comes from organic coarse sugar which effectively removes dead skin cells ensuring velvety soft skin. The formulation contains rice milk renowned for its soothing and softening properties, along with avocado oil to regenerate the skin and macadamia nut oil to richly moisturise. The big tub packaging makes it easy to scoop the product out, but don’t use unnecessary amounts, a handful will suffice.

Aveda Smoothing Body Polish
www.aveda.co.uk £22
This gooey scrub should be applied to damp skin. It’s so thick that if applied to a dry surface you’d need serious arm muscles. Ground walnut shell clings to the skin meaning you exfoliate for longer than normal, which equals super soft skin after only one use. Extracts of kelp help to regenerate body tissue and improve the circulation making skin firmer and more summer shorts friendly. Aloe soothes and moisturises while lavender refreshes and provides a relaxing herbal aroma that permeates your bathroom. A little goes a long way making this a good value product.

Dermalogica Exfoliating Body Scrub
www.dermalogica.com/uk £25.50
A rich and creamy formulation containing no artificial fragrance or colour makes this ideal for sensitive skins. Essential oils of lavender, orange, sandalwood, and rosemary ensure this is an invigorating scrub with aromas reminiscent of a spa. After only one use skin is definitely smoother courtesy of a yummy blend of ground olive, date and fig seeds that gently exfoliate without the scratichiness of some scrubs. Additional skin smoothing ingredients include softening rice bran and papaya enzymes to help loosen skin cells. The scrub is lightly foaming meaning skin feels not only soft to the touch but clean and fresh.

Clinique Sparkle Skin Body Exfoliator
www.clinique.co.uk £16.50
This body exfoliator is one of Clinique’s hero products. The gel like formulation makes application super easy and the squeezey tube ensure you get every last drop out. On sleepy mornings it’s an energising pick you up with extracts of refreshing menthol and spearmint and stimulating lemon and grapefruit (which also act as skin exfoliators). Aloe extracts help to soothe the skin, while extremely fine buffing grains ensure no dead skin cell is left unturned. A great formulation that leaves the skin silky smooth and cleansed, no wonder it has hero product status.

L’Occitane Verbena Body Salt Scrub
www.loccitane.com £26
In the words of William Morris, “have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.” This gorgeous glass jar of scrub comes with a cute wooden scoop making it both practical and attractive. Upon opening the waft of boiled lemon sweets hits you, this is the verbena extract sourced from Corsica, which helps to zing you from your tired state. Scrubbing comes from large grains of Mediterranean sea salt (word of warning, don’t use after waxing or shaving your legs), while essential oils of grape seed, apricot and sweet almond oil help to nourish and moisturise the skin so post-shower moisturising isn’t required. This scrub also had the added bonus of vitamin A to tone and help prevent ageing. Mr Morris would approve.
