Browhaus – Lashes in an Instant
written by Amy Castle

No matter how long my friends tell me my lashes are, every time I go out in the evenings I apply false eyelashes. It makes for a more dramatic look, but I do get rather annoyed with all that glue and the occasional mishap (resulting in the lash falling off half of my eye).

Along came Browhaus’ Lash in Bloom - cluster lashes that are applied either side of the natural lash line and last up to six weeks.

The application process took 45 minutes, in which a friendly lash technician cleaned my eyelids, then carefully applied each cluster onto my lid with a special salon glue that didn’t smell, clog or sting my eyes. I was asked if I wanted a dramatic look or something more natural and suitable for daytime, and I (probably rather unhelpfully) said a bit of each please!

I then relaxed for 40 minutes and entrusted my appearance for the next six weeks into the hands of the technician who was chatting to me throughout the application.

I then emerged from the chair and opened by eyes wide, smiling as I looked into the mirror beside me. I was firstly amazed at the fullness the lashes achieved, each lash looked so real and nothing like the spidery eyes that certain celebrities often sport. From the front, my eyes looked awake and natural, yet from the sides the sheer length made for a really striking yet not over-the-top look.

As I made my way home, I couldn’t help but flutter my lashes. It was only in pictures – namely during my Easter trip to Dublin – where I noticed the striking effect they had when my eyes were closed, or when I looked down. My eyes were framed really well, and there was no need for eyeliner.

A great aspect of wearing the lashes was the amount of time it cut out of my normal beauty regime. No false eyelashes or mascara in sight, I simply had to apply my foundation and run out of the door, and I was ready for the day or evening ahead.

After 3 weeks, I had the lashes removed as I was due to go away and wouldn’t have a chance to book in for while. After about two weeks, my eyes felt slightly heavy and I had the odd blonde eyelash sticking through the thick black false lashes. Every now and then I would feel a tickle in my eye, and it did get quite irritating at times. But for the look they gave, I could definitely put up with that, I thought.

Having them removed was as painless as having them applied. An oily liquid was applied, and the lashes slipped off after having the lotion applied to them and left on for about half an hour. The problem was once they were off. My long, curled blonde lashes had been pushed every which way for the last three weeks, and unfortunately this had taken its toll. They felt weak, and although now three weeks later, my lashes are nearly as strong again, they now no longer take mascara as well as they once did, and at first I was having to wear false lashes during the daytime in order to even look like I had lashes.

If, unlike me, you have: a) the time to keep having lashes applied and in-filled, b) have quite sparse lashes already, or c) have the patience for such a beauty regime, I would highly recommend the Browhaus lashes. But for me, I found my already full lashes took a bit of a battering from this treatment. Perhaps this was because the treatment wasn’t for me: my lashes were already long and gave a dramatic look when mascara was applied, I now look back and think.

I was going to have the lashes applied before my upcoming holiday to Cyprus for a friend’s wedding, but I feel I don’t want my lashes to get weaker like they first were after the lashes were taken off.

For now, I think my lashes need a break, but perhaps I wouldn’t rule it out for the future.
