  Peachykeen Organics
Review by Emily Hirschmann

Based in rural Cheshire, Peachykeen Organics is the type of company that I really enjoy writing about – a small family-run business, creating hand-made products, which are eco-friendly, ethical and made from 100% natural organic ingredients. And what’s more, the products are pretty damn fine.

Beauty Tried & Tested: Peachykeen Organics

Finding that her “keep it simple” approach to cosmetic creation has struck a chord with consumers, organic entrepreneur Jane Pusey has lately extended the Peachykeen range with a collection of organic Body Butters.

In a recent statement Jane said; “Our motto is 'keep it simple' so we've gone for traditional ingredients in as pure a state as we can. There's just no need to use synthetic ingredients and additives to get beautiful skin and we aim to prove it with our latest products." And prove it, she has – my interest piqued I acquired me a couple of Peachykeen’s earlier products and put them to the test.

Calm Balm 15ml (RRP £5.50)

Described as “A little pot of anywhere balm” Peppermint Calm Balm is one of the best value-for-money products I’ve come across this year. Created from a base of sweet almond oil, castor oil, cocoa butter, shea butter and bees wax, Calm Balm really does do what it says on the... er... jar; soothing and protecting everything from chapped skin, to cracked lips, to damaged cuticles.

And the scent sent me straight back to childhood with its aroma of peppermint creams! Being suitably impressed with the impact the balm had on my lips I thought I’d give it a real challenge and present it with my scary cracked heels and to my surprise it softened them up almost immediately.

This is a great little product and I shall certainly find room for it in my handbag as we move into the winter months – I like to think of it as a form of Rescue Remedy for the skin!

Gentle Face Balm 30ml (RRP £17)

My first thought with this one was “£17 is quite a lot of money for such a little pot,” but on reflection, it’s only a fraction of the figure I’d normally pay for a big brand moisturiser and more than a week into testing it, I’ve barely made a dent in the jar. Peachykeen’s Face Balm doesn’t really feel like your run-of-the-mill facial cream – it’s a lot more solid to start with and needs to be gently worked with the fingers before application – but it absorbs beautifully and leaves the skin feeling hydrated and wonderfully smooth.

Being created from entirely natural ingredients the scent is...  an acquired taste, I suppose. For me there’s a little too much geranium present, but as long as you don’t go too mad with the application the scent does fade relatively quickly.

That said, it’s not a generally obnoxious scent to begin with, I just really don’t like geraniums! Jojoba, Shea and Cocoa Butters form the main body of this balm, with Rosehip, Apricot, Petitgrain, Bergamot and Geranium oils adding their own special properties to the mix, creating a 100% natural and organic product perfect for most skin types.

So, if you’re looking for more of a feel-good moisturiser, which allows you to take more than a few steps away from all those nasty petro-chemicals that we’ve all come to rely on so much, walk right this way – Peachykeen Organics could just have the products for you.

According to the company’s website, the definition for “Peachykeen” is: “great, fabulous, swell” (Orig. 1950's USA). And I must say, as far as a description of the products goes, I couldn’t agree more.

Peachykeen organics are available online through the company’s own website www.peachykeenorganics.co.uk as well as a selection of specialist organic beauty websites and independent high street retailers.
