Beauty Tried & Tested: Super Moisturising Body Emollients

Age Defying Body Moisturiser, £4.99, Jergens Naturals,Age Defying Body Moisturiser, £4.99, Jergens Naturals, www.jergens.com

This product is specifically targeted towards mature skin with claims it helps to promote younger skin in 2 weeks, so when trialing it I looked for changes in the areas that look a little more crepe-y, noticeably the décolleté. It is a light formula that requires almost no rubbing in and is packed with 95% natural ingredients. There’s anti-oxidant rich green tea to combat skin ageing and free radical damage, sage to stimulate blood circulation and tighten skin (great for the thighs), aloe vera to condition, sunflower and jojoba oils to provide long lasting moisture and menthol for a zingy little kick to wake you up in the mornings. It left a subtle sheen to my skin and lasted all day long, and while the packaging is a little less than inspiring, this a great value for money product.

Enrich Massage & Body Oil, £33, Aromatherapy AssociatesEnrich Massage & Body Oil, £33, Aromatherapy Associates, www.aromatherapyassociates.com

Described as a “treatment in a bottle”, this oil doesn’t disappoint. As soon as you pump a squirt of this thick oil the scent and texture ooze luxury and richness. It is packed full of natural plant and essential oils to repair parched skin. Evening primrose oil combats anti-ageing, macadamia nut oil supports skin regeneration, coconut oil nourishes, while olive, jojoba and sweet almond oil all help to soften. It is full of geranium extract known to improve skin texture and tone by stimulating circulation. The luxuriously divine smell comes courtesy of sensual tuberose, comforting vanilla and uplifting ylang ylang. For best results I smoothed it on after a vigorous session of body brushing and a warm bath to ensure the oil really got to work its skin softening magic on thirsty areas like heels, elbows and knees. It feels such a treat to use and is great for creating a mini spa-like experience at home after a hard days work.

Ultra Rich Body Cream, £37, Dermalogica, Ultra Rich Body Cream, £37, Dermalogica, www.dermalogica.com/uk

The industrial size (437ml) and non-pretty packaging might turn some people off this cream, but don’t be deceived, inside is a wonderful and hard working emollient. It has a simple smell that won’t compete with your perfume and is free from essential oils and artificial fragrance making it ideal for sensitive skins in need of comfort. Oil of evening primrose conditions and moisturises, while vitamin E extracts reinforce the skins natural barrier function and pro-vitamin B5 helps to boost moisture levels. It feels slightly greasy when first applied so let it sink in before you put on your favourite silk dress as it may stain. It creates a silky sheen like you see in airbrushed photo shoots, that is still evident many hours later. And after only a few days use the skin feels more supple and looks healthier making this one of the best creams on the market.
