  Celeb craze: Coconut oil
Review by Amy Castle

It’s quite often I flick through the pages of glossy magazines and see the latest celebrity craze hypnotising readers into buying the product or trying out the latest health and beauty trend from Hollywood. From fad diets including consuming only raw vegetable smoothies to the weird and wonderful  treatments some lengths celebrities go to in the name of beauty (notably the placenta facials – need I say any more...), when celebrities endorse a product or regime, thousands of people are bound to follow suit.

Beauty Tried & Tested: Celeb craze: Coconut oil

The latest tip from the A-listers is the obsession with Coconut oil and its smoothing and moisturising properties. With fans including Miranda Kerr and  Jennifer Aniston (who drink coconut milk) it would be rude of me not to try at least some form of the miracle fruit, right?

Cue Environ’s Nourishing Body Oil, a lightweight oil suitable for use all over the body, with its primary ingredient being coconut oil derivative Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride. Personally not a lover of the scent of coconut, I was pleased that the product had no smell. Applied onto my dry skin which had taken a battering from all the sun over the summer months (I’d been abroad, I obviously hadn’t been able to soak up any rayshere) the oil glided over my skin and left a smooth and subtle shiny residue on my skin.

After using for a few weeks, my skin did feel hydrated and softer. I didn’t dare use it on my face, as it was quite oily and I didn’t know if it would feed any blocked pores (yuck!) The oil contains vitamins A, C and E, and is said to compact the skin’s outer layer to increase smoothness and water retention. I’d definitely agree with the smoothness bit, my skin was a lot smoother and more refined after use.

To continue the coconut theme, I tried Jane Iredale’s PureGloss, a luscious wet-look gloss with a plumping formula. Available in 21 colours, I opted for a mid-pink and was pleased with the shade. It didn’t drag over the contours on my lips and it’s a fab product as it doesn’t contain any nasty petroleum. Once again, coconut oil was the main component of the product and not only did the gloss stay put, it felt soft and non-sticky.

I’d be quite interested to see what the famed coconut oil can do for you on the inside, when consumed in the form of a beverage. Maybe that’ll be next...
