Fashion Business Club

The Fashion Business Club was founded by Alison Whelan and Courtney Blackman in 2005 to bring together fashion professionals. Members, who must justify of at least two-years experience in the industry, meet six times a year.

On the 27th of November, Michael Herz, Aquascutum’s womenswear designer answered questions from Vogue.com’s editor and FBC board member Dolly Jones. In front of a very fashionable, impeccably clad audience, he talked about working with Marc Jacobs at Iceberg in Italy, qualified his time at Daniel Hechter as “a good learning experience” and said that having his own line was never his ambition. A Q&A session followed during which Herz revealed that the inspiration for a season often starts with emotions. He deplored the fact that British fashion tends to encourage graduates to do their own thing, praises them highly but doesn’t follow up which translates into a lack of support for the middle generation designers.

A networking session followed, where members exchanged business cards over multi-coloured macarons.

Future speakers include Harold Tillman, chairman of the British Fashion Council, Alexandra Shulman, Editor of Vogue and Kinvara Balfour, of Daily candy.
