New Year, Novamio
written by Marie McEvoy
It’s two months into the New Year, and, after those pesky credit card bills have been paid off, it’s time to totally reinvent your wardrobe and your look for 2009.
Novamio - whose name is a mix of Italian and Spanish that translates quite literally as 'New Me', was founded in 2008 and is already causing quite a buzz.
It is part of Bodystretch UK Ltd, a family - run supplier with 20 years' experience in the fashion industry, providing garments to clients across Europe and some of the UK’s best-loved high street chains. It had its first year at the Clothes Show Live in Birmingham in December, to what owner Omar Nadeem says was a "positive" response, and little wonder - even the most frugal of fashionistas can find something here to look fabulous despite the credit crunch, with prices ranging from a £29 chiffon vest to the £95 'Helen' dress.
The designs have already been picked up on by The Sun, Grazia and Look magazine.
Aimed at the working woman looking for ‘elegance with a bit of bling’, and designed in London, the line is inspired by the catwalks and fashion magazines.
The current collection boasts a sparkling array of hand-embellished grecian gowns, baby dolls, bubble skirts, silk chiffon, and crystal jersey, combined with bugle beads and crystal panels. Accessories such as resin clutches in both bright and neutral tones complement the looks, as do candy-inspired resin bracelets and handmade beaded belts.
Summer 2009's collections will feature berry pinks, rich greys and minks, bold, floral printed silks, lightly sequinned citrus brights, and neutral and chocolate coloured cottons.
Although primarily trading on their online boutique www.novamio.com, there is soon to be a concession within Allders in South London - and with hopes for a Bond Street store opening in 2010, it seems as though Novamio will continue to be a label to watch for quite some time. |
