It’s all change for London Fashion Week!

It’s all change for London Fashion Week!
written by Nicky Branagh

This September, London Fashion Week celebrates its 25th year and it seems that all those British designers are flocking back to help us celebrate. In the past, London Fashion Week has often been snubbed in favour of Paris and Milan - where many of the fashion greats now show - but it seems that due to the surge of British designers opting to present their S/S ‘10 collections in London, that this may be about to change. Let’s have a look at who will be joining us for the anniversary…

Burberry
We’ve already reported this but we’re so excited that we think it’s worth another mention! Burberry Prorsum, who usually show in Milan, is set to close London Fashion Week and follow with a special event at its new London Headquarters. Christopher Bailey, Creative Director of the label told Grazia: ‘we are incredibly proud of our Britishness and this is really a wonderful opportunity…’

Jonathan Saunders
Fleeing his Fashion Week home for the last few seasons in New York, Saunders returns to London Fashion Week this September having been away from his studio home for 2 years. The Scot has said he is grateful to the British Fashion Council for the invitation to return, and we can only concur. Having already worked his magic in print with the likes of Alexander McQueen, Pucci and Christian Lacroix, Saunders has achieved a lot in his short time at the top. Combine this with his mainstream appeal (Saunders has designed collections for both Topshop and Target), and we think this is set to be one of London Fashion Week’s more popular shows.

Matthew Williamson
Williamson has been showing his collections in New York since 2002, but once made a welcome return to London in 2007, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his label. Now he’s back, and the front row is bound to be crammed with celebs. Known for his colourful, boho designs, the label is a favourite among A listers such as Sienna Miller, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kiera Knightly.

Pringle of Scotland
Combining the 25th year celebrations with their own 195th year anniversary, Pringle of Scotland is set to appear back in London having spent much of their time in Milan. The move was driven by Creative Director Clare Waight Keller who is showing in London for the first time since her graduation from the Royal College of Art. She has said: ‘We are proud to be returning to such a creative capital.’

Clements Ribeiro
One of our favourites to return, the husband and wife team (Suzanne Clements and Inacio Ribeiro), famous for their innovative knitwear, are making their comeback in London after 4 years absent from the catwalk. During their break, the pair released Limited Edition collections to the likes of Net-a-Porter and Liberty which were hugely popular, and were used as warm-up to their much anticipated ready-to-wear collection for S/S ’10. We cannot wait to see this one.

On a sad note
Having won this years ANDAM award, Giles Deacon has decided to up sticks to Paris where he will show his next collection. Deacon has brought in the London Fashion Week crowds for a number of seasons and we’ll be sorry to see him go. Saying that, we might just be too excited about this wave of returning British designers to notice…

And another thing…
London Fashion Week will be showing in its new, much more central home - Somerset House – underling this exciting shift within London Fashion. Let’s hope these designers mentioned are here to stay, and London continues to show the exciting, up and coming labels that make London Fashion Week what it is.

Provisional dates are September 18th – 22nd.
