Have you ever left the house in a pair of fabulous statement heels and half way through the day thought to yourself: "it's no use, I'm going to have to buy a pair of flats, I can't take another step"? Yes, me too. Or, conversely, has there ever been a time when you've been wearing comfy trainers and wished that you could slip into something a little more elegant – without having to go home first? Mmm... been there as well.

Of course it is possible to take a change of shoes when you leave in the morning, but that can mean lugging a shopper with you... maybe all day. There need to be a practical but chic solution to the problem. And there is – CocoRose foldable ballet pumps.

The brainchild of Janan Leo (29) who has just given up her day job working for Sir Richard Branson, these pretty and elegant little ballet flats fold up into their own, matching leather-look purse – easily fitting into a handbag, glove compartment or briefcase. And just for good measure, the lining of a side pocket in the purse unfolds and turns into a handy carrying bag for the shoes you take off. Very nifty.

Starting at £35, the current range includes a not-too-glitzy animal print in brown with a coppery satin bow and the gold inner soles incorporate a cushioned footbed for extra comfort. The front of the shoe is just low enough to reveal a sexy suggestion of toe cleavage. Other styles feature little bows on the almond shaped toes.

For autumn there are a host of new styles including two-tone, mock-croc and gemstone, sash and velvet ribbon embellished – the latter retail at £45. While colours range from black, grey and purple with dashes of berry red, fuchsia pink and turquoise – perfect for parties.

And in case you're still uncertain – having handed them out to celebrities at the recent Baftas, CocoRose pumps are now hot favourites with celebrities (as well as models, fashionistas and career girls) and a specially designed pair will be in the goodie bags again next year.
