Two Door Cinema Club Gig Review - The Louisiana, Bristol. 3rd March 2009

Just hours before Two Door Cinema Club were due to take the stage at The Louisiana in Bristol the band were being dubbed 'up-and-coming' by radio legend Steve Lamacq on his BBC 6Music show. Already expectations were high for the County Down trio, with everything about the evening screaming 'next big thing'. Even the venue, which has played home to the likes of The White Stripes, Amy Winehouse and Bloc Party before hitting the big time, gives off the vibe that you are in the presence of something exciting.
Supported by the surprisingly-good-for-a-first-gig Apples, Bristol was ready to be lifted from it's dreary wet winter skyline. Lucky for the Louisiana - Two Door Cinema Club didn't disappoint. Kicking off their set with their latest single Something Good Can Work (released on 9th March) the trendy young crowd bounced their beehives and shacked their skinny jeans in appreciation. Their polished mix of musical technology kept the room buzzing to the point that the scarcely-filled space felt like it was packed to the rafters.
It was easy to tell that the band, who will be supporting the Wombats for three dates of the NME Awards Tour, are heavily influenced by the likes of Death Cab for Cutie and Modest Mouse, which at times left the audience feeling like they'd heard it all before. But their warming indie-pop tunes made the struggle through the torrential conditions worth while.
Two Door Cinema Club have yet to find their own sound, making it hard for them to leave a lasting impression on a hard to please crowd. They may be one to watch out for in the future, but for now they're just a great band to listen to on a wet and windy night in the West Country.
