Silke Wilhelm I Audiovisual Couture Vol.1 by Kowesix Album Review
written by Sav D’Souza
The realms of music and fashion often delve into each other worlds. Music blaring on catwalks, fashionistas taking to the decks, designers inspired by bands, rap stars, rock chicks and producers bring out their own fashion labels, examples are everywhere it seems.
The collaboration between ‘urban couture’ designer Silke Wilhelm I and DJ KoweSix has produced a pretty fine conceptual album.
The album is apparently meant to accompany a new perfume which is novel if nothing else. But back to the music the double CD really delivers a collection that is hard to define as a whole but which is a sensory delight.
CD1 has lush and emotive cinematic like scores that seem made for the big screen. ‘Terranova: Plastic Stress’ is a mesmerising dark and moody track that drifts elegantly into ‘FC/Kahuna: Hayling’ which lifts the vibe a delicious notch and has some sensual little touches cleverly inserted into it. Kasper Bjorke’s excellent Stone’s
cover ‘Heaven’ is hard to fault as is the delightfully soulful ‘Zwanie Johnson: My Little Proud Bird’, simplistic but heavenly sounding.
CD2 after a sluggish start lifts the tempo to an altogether more funky house/jazz funk offering. 40 Thieves: Don’t Turn it Off feat. Qzen, is a sexy cheeky little number. The catchy ‘Aeroplane feat. Kathy Diamonds: Whispers’ leads into ‘Teensnake: Holding Back My Love.’
Albums like movies can be expertly produced but fail to deliver other than on a stylistic or technical level. Audiovisual manages to be superbly well produced and show a great deal of creativity and freshness about it. |
