Kilto Take (Gig Review)

8/10Kilto Take (Gig Review)

The first time I listened to Kilto Take's four track EP, I was taken aback by what I can only describe a raw unique talent.  Their sound could be likened to an impressive combination of Muse and U2 and I found myself listening wanting to listen to the EP a few more times. I was very much looking forward to seeing them headline the Media Industry Showcase at O2 Academy Islington.

Sunday night arrived. Anticipation lingered in the air as the last of the supporting acts said their goodbyes before walking off the stage. Fifteen minutes later, Kilto Take, the three piece band consisting of Jon Crosby the lead singer and guitarist, Karl Grant the bassist and Lee Spavins the drummer, finally emerged onto the smoke lit stage. Given that it was 11pm on a Sunday night, the crowd had dispersed, however this certainly did not dishearten Kilto Take as they burst into their first track 'Retrogress', a powerful, captivating number which appeared to whet the audience's appetite for more. The much more edgier track 'Ava' followed with the introduction of some new tracks such as 'Atonement' which reinforced the vocal range of Jon Crosby. The closing track of the EP, 'Summit' sustained the momentum of the live set. To complete the night, the encore was 'Cause and Effect', an electrifying heavy based track, and certainly a perfect way to end the night. As the audience applauded and cheered the exhilarating performance and the arrival of Kilto Take, I very much hoped that they were here to stay!
