| First Marc By Marc Jacobs Store Opens In London
London’s first Marc by Marc Jacobs store has opened just south of Grosvenor Square on the corner of Mount
and Audley Streets. The new 362-square-meter store is just down the street from the Marc Jacobs Collection store
and features men’s and women’s ready-to-wear collections and accessories.
The new store is housed on the ground floor of a 19th century residential building. Originally used as a bank, many of
the space’s architectural details have been preserved. From the exterior, new signage was integrated into the original
stone storefront to reflect the historic nature of the building. Throughout the interior the store’s existing parquet floors,
walls, and ceilings were also kept and refinished to reflect the Marc by Marc Jacobs brand. The store was designed
by Stephan Jaklitsch Architects.
On the ground level, men’s and women’s ready-to-wear collections are displayed throughout the rectangular footprint
of the main sales area with separate areas for shoes and accessories. Anchored by a large cashwrap and custom
backwall display, the main sales area features recessed lighting, Christian Liaigre seating and custom display fixtures
such as large, custom steel skate tables, polished stainless steel hanging fixtures and custom back-lit display
fixtures.
At the basement level, the original floor plan has been adapted to house an additional 25-square-meters of retail
space as well as all of the store’s the private functions. Throughout this level, much of the original character of the
building has been maintained, including the original bank vaults which have been transformed into retail, office and
stock rooms.
With this London opening, Marc Jacobs counts 187 free standing stores worldwide. Recently, Marc by Marc Jacobs
stores opened in Madrid, Paris, Athens and Istanbul.
