A match made in high street heaven
Written by Nicky Branagh
H&M are well known for their top-end designer collaborations. In the past, they’ve issued collections from the likes of Stella McCartney, Viktor and Rolf, Commes des Garcons and most recently, Matthew Williamson. Having built quite a reputation for themselves the question posed to the high street favourite will surely always be: ‘who next?’
Well, it seems that H&M might have just outdone themselves this time – for how could they possibly top their next collaboration with none other than JIMMY CHOO?! Well, I’m sure we’ll soon see but let’s not dwell on the distant future just yet, and concentrate instead on the exciting matter in hand.
This is the first time that H&M have collaborated with an accessories brand and I’d be interested to see how this one pans out. Not only will the collection launch on a Saturday (eek, think of the crowds!) but with up to around 15 designs of shoes on sale, how will a store, that isn’t largely known for its shoe sales, cope with the inevitable Choo hungry shoppers? I suppose only time will tell…
But it isn’t just shoes that are being produced for the collection. Bags and Jewellery will also be available, as will a collection for men. Furthermore, Jimmy Choo will be designing their very first clothing line for the high street store. Creative advisor for H&M, Margareta van den Bosch says:
‘I like the way we have worked with clothes to accessorize the shoes and bags rather than the other way round.’
This is an exciting move for Jimmy Choo, and one that will no doubt come under much scrutiny. I’m intrigued as to what we should expect from the clothing line (and indeed the products for men), but alas, it’s a little too early for any news on that front. Here’s a rough price guide for all parts of the collection, so you know how much saving you need to do before the big day:
Shoes will range from £49.99 to £179.99
Bags and jewellery will range from approximately £17.99 to £179.99
Clothing will be approximately cost from anything up to £149.99
So, not the cheapest I’ll agree but a definite improvement from the £500 odd that you might be expected to pay for a pair of sought after Choos.
The collaboration will launch in just 200 H&M stores worldwide on 14th November. Be sure to put that date in your diary!
