No Go For Galliano

No Go For Galliano
By Sarah Potter

Alas, it seems there is little hope for the fashion world that Galliano will be collaborating with Topshop. After rife rumours, much speculation and a tonne of excitement, a spokesperson for the designer has stated that he is 'concentrating on his rehab'. Very commendable, however disappointing it is to the fashion industry.

Galliano caused a huge uproar earlier in the year, not only in the fashion biz, but all around the world, when he was filmed by two members of the public being racially abusive, and more specifically extremely anti-semitic. This led to Galliano being arrested and subsequently fired from his post at Christian Dior. Celebrities and civilians alike were outraged at Galliano's remarks about Hitler, leading 'Black Swan' star Natalie Portman to release a statement in which she firmly states she will 'not be associated with Mr Galliano in any way'.

A collaboration with Topshop, although perhaps a little too soon after the scandal, could have propelled Galliano back into the limelight for more positive reasons. It's been said that close friend and confidante Kate Moss, no stranger to scandal, was fully supportive of this and it has even been said that a meeting of the minds happened between the model, designer and Topshop bigwig Sir Philip Green, at Moss' wedding last week.

Looks like for now, while Galliano is receiving the help he needs, Topshop will have to find a new top boy.
