| Nirvana looking good for Christmas No. 1
Bookieshave put Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit in second place in the race for the lucrative Christmas top spot.
Ladbrokes have odds now stating that X-Factor personage Amelia Lily is the favourite at 7/2, but the classic 1991 single by the Seattle grunge heroes is close behind at 4/1.
2011, of course, marked the 20th anniversary of the Nevermind album.
Also on the list are a whole list of Simon Cowell-based acts that we're not really sure of, plus Amy Winehouse at 12/1, Rage Against The Machine at 25/1 (haven't we been here before?), teen sensation Justin Bieber (25/1), Adele (33/1) and, oddly, The Beatles at 100/1.
A facebook page has been set up here.
Organisers of the new Facebook group 'Nirvana For Christmas No. 1' said they were inspired to start the campaign after The X Factor stole the name of children's charity Rhythmix for their new girl group.
The Brighton charity, which uses music to help young people, asked the show to change the group's name, but were ignored. "The X Factor are refusing to back down," a charity spokesman said. "We believe it would be simple and appropriate for them to change the name. We see no reason why they shouldn't. But now we're involved in a costly legal debate which takes valuable funds away from delivering services to young people,' he continued. 'We're at a loss as to why anyone would even consider trying to find a legal loophole to ensure a band can continue to use the name of a small yet highly-respected charity.'
The Facebook group owners said: "This year the X Factor have decided to effectively bully a children's charity. Well, f**k you, X Factor. We're going to download the Nirvana classic Smells Like Teen Spirit to stick the proverbial finger up at you. Who's in?"
In 2009, Rage Against The Machine's Killing In The Name beat Joe McElderry to No 1 thanks to a Facebook campaign.
